I quite agree with his Excellency that as other Practitioner at the Bar would have the same weight or give the same prestige to the Bench as Mr. Pauncefote, and although quite alive to the inconveniences which might to some extent arise from the union of the two offices of Attorney General and Judge of the Summary Court, I am decidedly in favor of his appointment.
Should circumstances prevent his acceptance, W. Whyte would certainly claim to have the best...

If it would suit the views of the... Pauncefote to accept the acting appointment of Judge of the Summary Court in addition to that of Attorney General, it would be in my opinion the best possible arrangement that could be made, but failing this, I think Mr. Whyte, under the circumstances of the case, would be the most eligible person to appoint to the vacancy.
