Any which alone a claim to pension could be founded.

The Naval Yard Police, therefore, find themselves once more in precisely the same position as that which they had occupied before the passing of the Ordinance.

They have neither lost nor gained anything.

It nevertheless appears desirable that I should furnish a copy of the correspondence which passed between myself and the Commodore on the subject, as it will place on record a more detailed statement of the action taken by this Government which need be embodied in this Despatch.
