Similar pleas and therefore I submit such reasoning is inexcusably insufficient.

I may regret such a result, even if I had not expressed my opinion - an omission which would scarcely have been consistent with my duty.

I must, while still saying that such a prolonged and deliberate withholding of all information till the scheme had been launched appears to me so extraordinary a precedent, and is so utterly opposed to my ideas of the respective duties and positions of Her Majesty's Diplomatic servants and myself on matters affecting the interests of this colony that I am quite unable to alter the views which I have expressed on that subject.

If my opinions have been or are likely to be the cause of any embarrassment as hinted by the Duke of Buckingham, I hope it could be supposed that even Your Lordship or any other English Gentleman acquainted with the facts would have really formed a different judgment on that part of the Case.

I have the honor to be, My Lord, Your Lordship's most obedient humble Servant,

Rached Graves MacDonnell Governor
