Whilst in England at the last year (when my present term of office was about to commence)

I was informed at the Treasury and at the Audit Office that the requirements of the "Exchequer and Audit Departments Act 1866" made it necessary that the accounts of such Colonies (which render accounts to England) should be sent for audit to the Colonial Office instead of to Somerset House, and that the alteration would take effect with the accounts of the year 1868.
