Fetters premonstrating bere received of promotions by the Governor from the Colonial Office.

If after all that has passed, your Lordship on the Subject: I am anxious that your Lordship should have thought it wiser than his Wilson should not remain at Hongkong, perhaps. Know that My Son was selected for you would be able to transfer his office, which he holds by Surveyor & Engineer, at the request of the Duke of Newcastle. My son heard a Surveyor & Engineer are required. Believe them to be accompanied by letters of high commendation from the late Governor of Hongkong, Hercules Robinson; and also from the then Acting Governor after him; and also from the present Governor.

Under these circumstances, I had to His Grace that your Lordship feels it hard to reconcile being inflicted on a young man of vigour and energy, of the late Metropolitan of India, by removing him from his position, on the grounds that he is dependent for having no private fortune, and having a wife and three Children.
