Houstrous yet I can conscientiously affirm that whilst I was Acting Col: Chaplain, I performed Services in St. John's Cathedral. I can upon previous Colonial Chaplains having done during a similar period of time.
And to communicate every grace of 1. Heavy reasons, I shall state that during the Year 1866 alone, I had no fewer than 181 funerals, i.e., about 160 in procession by myself.
When Your Grace considers the disadvantages and duties under which I am compelled to live at a great distance from shore, that often I have to risk my life during epidemics in order to bury the dead and discharge other imperative branches; when Your Grace reflects how depressing it is to be left single-handed amidst so much sickness, sickness in its most distressing form; and when Your Grace reflects that I suffered from that most loathsome disease, Small Pox, while visiting the Hospitals ashore, I feel confident Your Grace will allow that the labourer is worthy of his hire, and that the additional allowance asked for was fairly earned.
I solicit your Grace's favourable consideration of the claim. I prefer to be the more bold because the concession will entail no additional outlays on the augmenting revenues.
