Abolition of the Internal Establishments took place throughout the West Indies. On this occasion I was appointed to the Colonial Department to fill the place of Settlers Farmer and afterwards received from the Imperial Treasurers a gratuity or compensation amounting to something about £600.

I would further beg leave to state that my first appointment to the Colonial service was conferred as a reward for previous services, having served over twenty years in the Royal Regiment of Artillery, principally in superintendence to the latter portion, over two years on Expedition to quell the disturbances under General Charnock. I have taken the liberty to make mention of this not in any way as a claim for past services but most respectfully, and in justice to shew that the greater part of my life has been spent in the service of the Government, extending over a period of fully thirty years upwards, thirty of which were within the Colony.

With reference to the latter, I would beg leave to observe that I rely with confidence on the documents which may from time to time have reached the Colonial Office from the respective Governors under whom I have had the honour to serve.
