I have the honor to submit the following for your consideration.
I joined the Government Service in the Colony of Hong Kong in April 1861, and although I was generally well enough to attend Office regularly, I never enjoyed that health which I had done before.
After a service of nearly 3 1/2 Years, I was invalided home and, by your leave granted to me, my health has been fully restored.
I am fearful of returning to a place where I never enjoyed perfect good health.
I most respectfully beg that if it be possible for you to confer some other appointment on me, you would do so, allowing me to resign my present one for another in England or some other part where I might enjoy better health, and for which I should ever be grateful.
