SUPERINTENDENT AND DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT,

The moment an alarm of fire is raised, wherever it may be, they will repair to the spot with all possible speed, and take command of the force; when there they will be responsible for the general conduct of the Brigade under their charge. It is the particular duty of the deputy-superintendent to give orders for a sufficient quantity of hose to be attached; to see that it is directed in the most advantageous manner; and to take all orders from the superintendent, or in his absence to take the command of the whole force.

FOREMAN.

On arriving at the fire he will take the direction of the superintendent as to putting the engine in the proper place to be worked; will number his men, see that the carriage is locked, and that sufficient and suitable men are ready to pump, and take command of them. He will give the word of command, viz., "Get ready;" when ready, "Down with her;" and when the fire or practice is over, "Halt," &c.
