I have the honor to report to His Excellency Governor Sir Richard Macdonnell that it is my intention to apply in the usual manner, in August next, for an extension of my present leave of absence on half pay from the 1st December 1868 to the 18th of June 1869.
But, before I do so, I am desirous that if the Governor should have any objection to my Application, His Excellency would be so good as to inform me.
I beg leave to inform the Right Honorable the Secretary of State for the Colonies that during the whole period of my services in China – since March 1857, I have not at any time availed myself of the indulgence of that yearly Vacation Leave accorded to Public servants at Hongkong.
