the Secretary for

for the
Colonies with an
application for Extended leave of absence.
How Rovy,
The time when I should return to that Colony is close at hand but unfortunately I find the state of my health such as
begging for a further
indulgence. My constitution has been so affected by my sojourn in China that the ten months' stay in this country have had but little effect in
renewing
The extreme heat of the summer has to some extent counteracted the good I hoped to have received.
I am aware
that I have
already been treated with an indulgence I could show no claim for but
I am convinced that I cannot return to Hong Kong with the slightest hope of
resisting the climate that I feel justified in making this application.
