I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of 14th Feby, forwarding extracts from a despatch addressed to the Secretary of State for the Colonies relative to the destructive fire which took place in the city of Victoria on the 28th Nov. 1867.

In reply to the paragraph thereof, I have the honour to state for the information of the Field Marshal Commanding in Chief that the fire occurred before in the Proops... but from a statement made by Capt. Barry, Royal Engineers, to the General Officer Commanding the Troops in this Colony, it is assumed that the fire was carried into effect...
