of closing the Hong Kong Mint.
I would only observe that while it appears evident that the Colonial Government cannot undertake to support the Establishment of the Mint, it is to be hoped that the delay of two months gained by the new engagements to coin referred to in the correspondence, as may be suggested by the Governor, may lead to some scheme for supporting the Mint by the joint contributions of the several Banks being yet matured.

There is reason to hope that the Bankers might have made some suggestions for the disposal of the Machinery but M. is not done so. It is improbable that the Bankers will support the Mint as long as there is an plentiful supply of Bar Silver. Bankers can make a profit at the present price of the Dollar very well.
