towards selecting an Officer for this appointment, the Duke of Montrose will be glad to be informed what scale of Pension, if any, the Assistant Postmaster would be entitled to on retirement from the Colonial service, and also whether, if an Officer of some years standing in this Department were selected, his length of service in the General Post Office would be taken into account in granting him a retiring allowance from the Colony.

It is doubtful whether Cleck, of long standing and good experience in this Department, would be willing to take service under the Colonial Government if, in accepting the Colonial appointment, he relinquished all claims on account of his previous service.
