To action taken by the Colonial Government of Hongkong in Chinese territory.
British Consulates.
For Canton. July 3. 1868.
I have the honor to enclose an extract from the "China Mail" newspaper published at Hongkong on the 1st inst., stating that an armed steamer with the Capt. Superintendent & a body of police on board had left to search Mirs Bay and the neighbourhood for a piratical junk, which, however, was not found, having left the village a few hours previous to the steamer's arrival. Now Mirs Bay forms the back water of the Kow-loong peninsula, & the village is in Chinese territory.
I am not of course in a position to verify the truth of this newspaper statement, with which I presume the Colonial Government will be in a position to deal having been searched.
