My Lord,
Peking,
Aug. 14, 1868.
I have the honor to transmit herewith
to Y.L. the
copy of a despatch
I have received from
H.M. Consul at Canton, relating
an instance of action taken by the Col.
Police of Hong Kong on Chinese territory, with the general principles
expressed by Mr. Robertson, and
I have informed
him that a copy of his despatch has
been sent to Y.Lo. for consideration.
Y.Lo.
In the event of its being deemed necessary
to enter into communication with the Colonial
Office on the subject, I have thought it better to send the correspondence instead of myself reporting the circumstances.
