On the same lines, I have dealt with the case of a distressed British Seaman, and the payment of a sum on her behalf before she started on her journey homewards.

In consequence of a recommendation by the Chief Justice, I authorized the payment of $125 to S. Emamoodien for his meritorious conduct in assisting to convict certain Chinese guilty of robbery from the premises of M. Emma's Master, who had lost more than that sum by the robbery. The reward allowed by the Attorney General was considered sufficient and was handed to him. He, however, while thanking the Government, retained $136 for his own use and sent the remainder, $7551 - $8136 = $172 (though it is written as "Juas! 8136 172" which seems to be a miscalculation or misinterpretation), to the Magistrates for the Poor Box.

The Gunpowder Storage Ordinance having been confirmed by Her Majesty, and Your Grace having sanctioned the necessary attendant expenditure, I need only point out that the hulk required for the Depôt is that put down in the Returns as the "Chase", the purchase of which cost $4,500. Some repairs were required, for which an amount was allowed.

I trust Your Grace will find the above sufficiently explanatory, and I have to solicit your approval of those items which have not previously received Your Grace's sanction or been appropriated.
