The appointment of F. Lloyd to be Head Turnkey at Stone Cutter's Island was simply a change in the Department, Punkley Morris returning to his duty at Victoria Gaol at his own request.

I promoted Chan-yir, Interpreter of the Mint, to a Clerkship at the Magistracy, and appointed Chun-Pat-cha to fill the vacancy.

On the dismissal of S. Machado, Overseer of Convicts, I thought it desirable, on the representation of the Surveyor General, to employ four European Turnkeys, already on the Gaol Staff, to perform the duties hitherto carried out by the Overseer, and the annual salary attached to this last-mentioned Office, viz: $360, is divided among the four Turnkeys.

Regarding the Return relating to the Offices, it is only necessary for me to note that according to the instructions conveyed in Her Grace's despatch No. 194 of 5th August, I appointed John Baynes at an annual Salary of $480, and Leong a duong, shroff, at an annual Salary of $180.
