knowns, and if Her Majesty's Government could have foreseen that the establishment of the Mint would have led to a further great consumption of the Colony's Capital, and absorbed a large portion of its annual Revenue they would have imagined it a difficulty for the Colony able to maintain the time burthens at the same time.

37. I may now venture to state, that any relaxation which should suffice to sustain both burthens would defeat its object by increasing the very heavy commercial depression under which the Colony is at present labouring. Unless there be an available balance of $100,000 at least, it is difficult now and then to meet the most pressing necessities from incoming Revenue.

Inclosure 6. 28. I transmit Copy of this Treasurer's Return for the week ended the 7th instant - and your Grace will thence perceive there was only a balance of $17,163 in the Treasury and $111,900 in the Strong Vault, - on a total of $129,588. To ascertain how much of this is available $51,701 judicial Deposits, and $51,900 subsidiary Coinage must be deducted.
