We deduct the above total from the ordinary Revenue of 1866, Your Grace will find it reduced from upwards of $769,000 to $528,231, actually $47,973 less than the Revenue of 1863; its apparent increase over which had misled Your Grace as to the present and future annual available income of the Colony.
2.4. The comparative view of the financial condition, and burthen-bearing power of the Colony during the two periods would, however, not be complete without taking into consideration that the year 1863 commenced with a surplus of $475,000, nearly £100,000, whilst that of 1866 commenced with only $184,000, or about £35,500, and ended with a nominal surplus less than $25,000.
