To learn what had become of John Balmer, I have the one honor to inform you that I have in vain searched for any clue to how or where he came by his death. The report of the Superintendent of Victoria Gaol, which I annex, led to the belief that reliable information might be gained from Enclosure No.3. I have not been able to discover anything more at present but, if any further information reaches me, I shall not fail to transmit it for Mrs. Palmer's benefit.
