though as he states larger other accounts have passed through his hands. it is highly improbable when the Treasurer reminded him of the Bond forfeited, that he should have believed it was for a thousand dollars instead of Pounds. His excuse that he had not the Bond and papers to refer to, having returned them, is equally unsatisfactory, as he had another list referring to the which necessitated this reference to the Council. Mr. Hazeland professed to be able to show entries for all monies received by him at the dates of their receipt.
Alleging the impression made on His Excellency's mind was very unsatisfactory and, personally, he believed that Mr. Hazeland must have intentionally kept back the difference of $3,800.
Accordingly, Mr. Hazeland had been then informed that the Governor considered his explanation unsatisfactory, and that any future neglect to pay money received on Government account into the Treasury every Saturday, would necessitate the Governor bringing his case before the Executive Council.
