"His Excellency next lays on the Table, for consideration of the Council, Report by the Surveyor General on the state of Government House, and Secondly a Memorandum which he had prepared on that Report.
The Surveyor General's (Mr Wilson) Report represented the immediate necessity of repairing the Roof and Floors of Government House, and much of the general woodwork, so as to keep the Building in a habitable state, and shewed by approximate Estimate that the carrying out of such repairs, including Lead Gutters, recommended to be ordered from England - would involve an Expenditure of $15,000.

The subject is discussed at considerable length, and the Council unanimously advise that no delay should take place in commencing the repairs needed, in order to stop further dilapidation arising from the destructive inroad of white Ants, and by substituting hard wood for Pine, by removing and painting the woodwork of the Building, but that if possible, only temporary repairs of the Roof should be made at present.
