The Committee are of opinion that should the proposed Ordinance be carried into effect, a considerable augmentation must be made to the medical Staff, and absolute Hospital accommodation.
Without entering into details as to the financial question alluded to in His Excellency's letter, which the Members of the Committee consider is beyond their province, they do not hesitate to say the services of at least five visiting Surgeons under the Inspector of Hospitals will be required, each of whom should receive salaries commensurate to the laborious and peculiar nature of the duties to be impressed on them; that the buildings of the present Civil Hospital would, if properly repaired and reformed, be sufficient for the purposes of the proposed Lock Hospital.
The Committee would beg to call the attention of His Excellency to the admirable and spacious site (Sobs 291-4) to the West of the Government Garden for building a New Civil Hospital.
