obtaining Tenders for the Iron Work required. By next mail the receipt of the second Despatch may probably be acknowledged and I should propose that till then no further steps

and with the local knowledge of Mr Bird the

Assistant Surveyor General, who will shortly be in England, all required

information could be

obtained.

I should beg to be allowed to represent; that my only

reason for

not supplying

detailed drawings of

the

Iron Work in the first instance was,

that I considered it far more

satisfactory both for myself

and for the Government
