the latter declined to state the offence of which he complained; and Mr. Edward H. Pollard, Queen's Counsel, and highly successful practitioner at the local Bar.
2. I propose to deal with the various stages of the dispute in the order in which they were brought officially to my knowledge, and therefore first invite Your Excellency's attention to the enclosed correspondence between Mr. Pollard and the Acting Colonial Secretary, in which the former, in a letter of the 4th instant, states, that at a trial at Nisi Prius before the Chief Justice on the 27th ultimo, the latter called on him to apologize, and that when Mr. Pollard expressed his perfect willingness to do so, if the Chief Justice would explain the nature of his offence, the case was adjourned till Mr. Pollard should have apologized.
Mr. Pollard's letter then proceeds to state that again on the 29th June, when employed in another case, the Chief Justice spoke at him, alluding to his having been "insulted", and on Mr. Pollard's reiterating his willingness to apologize, if informed what he had done to offend, the Chief Justice, instead of informing him, stated he "would postpone his decision" until Tuesday.
