I have seen nothing since and have had no reason to alter my views, and lately been occupied in making the necessary arrangements for licensing a sufficient number of houses for the purpose, but am not yet in a position to report details to you.
I may say, however, that the proposed new arrangement has met with the general, I might almost say unanimous concurrence of the Community, so far as I have yet ascertained, with the exception of a few Gentlemen of the clerical profession who have felt it their duty to protest.
As they have signified their intention of appealing to the English Press, and to the Public at home, I think it right to transmit for your Grace's information a letter which they recently addressed to myself and my reply.—drafted under very great pressure of other business, but it explains the points least intelligible to persons unacquainted with the exceptional circumstances of this Colony.
