I think it not at all improbable that the girl is unwilling to return to her Master, as, doubtless, she prefers a life of prostitution to servitude, but that is beside the question. From her own declaration, which I have read, she admits she was taken to Hong Kong by some man and sold to another for the sum of $98. The Charge of abduction is therefore very clearly made out, and if the law of China is to be acknowledged to prevail in Chinese territory,

the petitioner has a clear right to demand the restitution of what may be termed his property in the services of this woman, and her being conveyed into a foreign jurisdiction cannot invalidate or annul it, and I trust His Excellency the Governor will in this view of the matter feel warranted in directing the girl being handed over to her legal protectors.
