Beyond the notes made in the column for remarks, I have little to add by way of explanation.
3. School
The Sum of $50 to the Director was presented as a donation to assist in defraying an unusual expenditure for thoroughly cleansing the building after a smell had attacked many of its inmates. In the Estimates $400 had been earmarked for "Charitable Allowances" and the donation was made from that fund.
4. Reclamation
It was found necessary to resume Marine Lot Nos. 4, 12 and Cobb's 28 at the Northern end of the Kowloon Peninsula, and as the works on the adjoining lots were being continued, the sea wall and reclamation of lot No. 12 had to be carried on at the same time. The Estimate for these works was $5,410, of which $1,400 were paid during the Quarter to which this Despatch refers.
