Joong A Fook fisherman at Chook sau Hui

near Keung

on" Province states: - on the

30th January 1867,

I was in my boat off

the above place when I was attacked by

a "Fow keang " boat in which

were

Portuguese and robbed

of all I had.

I and my

crew ten in all;

were

carried

away

to the Barracoon

at Macao. - We arrived there

on

the 14th

April were there against our will; - when in the Barracoons we were

badly fed-

at one time we only had rice, and at another, we were only allowed water - We were taken before the officer, before whom Contracts had to be signed. (i.e. the Procurador) and were told through an interpreter that we must go. We refused,

were

told that if

we did not

go

we should be sent to work on

the roads,

and

very frightened,

we

agreed to go

on board

a ship.-
