As I feel convinced that His Excellency the Governor does not wish one to perform more than a reasonable amount of labour, unless under exceptional circumstances, I have to request you will forward for his favourable consideration this application, that he will be pleased to sanction the purchase and maintenance of a horse and vehicle for conveying me to and from the various works under my charge, by which much time would be saved... and that under ordinary circumstances he will be further pleased to allow an hour's interval from duty during the middle of the day.
