Surveyor General's Office, Victoria, 18th July, 1867
W. Wilson, Esquire
Surveyor General.
With reference to your letter No. 105 in which you state that His Excellency the Governor expects me to devote on an average eight hours a day to the Government service, I beg to say that I find after a trial of those very protracted hours they are not sufficient for the performance of the multifarious services you require of me.
