It be understood that no further deduction is to be made on any account from $59 above, and that I will repay them in Havana as agreed to its valid wages.

Three suits of clothing and other necessary articles are to be supplied to me gratis on the day of my embarkation. The protection of the laws in force in the Island of Cuba is guaranteed to me.

At the expiry of the eight years stated in this agreement, I shall be free to dispose of my labor without permitting debts, pledges, or engagements which I may have contracted to serve as a pretext for prolonging this Contract against my will.

I further declare that I have received in cash the eight dollars mentioned. I further declare that I am satisfied with the higher wages stipulated, though they are earned by free workmen and even by the slaves in the Island of Cuba, as the difference I find compensated by certain advantages which my master or employer will secure to me under this agreement.

I am fully alive to the fact that at the expiration of this Contract, days are allowed me to return to my native Country at my own expense if I choose to do so, or to seek employment under a Master whom I may consider the best for me, and who will give me higher wages.
