It is suggested that the motive power be given by a Portable Steam Engine which would be adapted to such circumstances as might require, either for Pumping, Grinding, Sowing or driving a threshing mill.

2. In the first instance the Engine would be employed, at the Pokfulam Reservoir Works in driving a Centrifugal Pump, a machine which is included in the Requisition and which would be capable of lifting 1000 Gallons per minute. The Surveyor General represents that an enormous amount of labor in hand, pumping will be saved, by the coming working of steam during the working season, and that very possibly with the Engine at work we shall be able to continue the Reservoir Works during the next Rains.
