This Ordinance approx
Ine to require amendments.
Provision should be made
in sect. 4 for the exclusion
of Sunday in the computation
of time, and I have to point out
and suggest to you
at once
to you the expediency
of providing for it
by adding to the said
section the words "unless
the last day shall happen
to fall on a Sunday in
which case the time shall
be reckoned exclusively
of it".
As the English rule of Court, in which a
provision is made for the last day happening to fall on a Sunday, Good Friday, or days of public fast or thanksgiving, I adopted
the same. And it will be for you to consider whether in making necessary
amendments to which
I have referred, it will not be well to make provision for these days also, as within English rules of Court, in order to assimilate the
matter as to
computation of time to those of England.
I take this opportunity
of expressing the regret with
which I have learnt of the
illness of Mr. James Hale,
the Attorney General of Hong Kong.
