Neither His Excellency the Governor nor the Surveyor General have since then been made acquainted with the details of any plan proposed by the Military for extension of the Cantonments into the barbon, whilst even the purchase, which they had projected of Fletcher's lots, came only to the knowledge of this Government accidentally, The Major General is aware of this.

It would nevertheless be seen from Colonel Lovell's letter of the 18th December last, transmitted in Captain Hartmann's communication to me of the 19th December, that Colonel Lovell had written to his department through the Major General in December 1855, recalling attention of the War Department to the project on finding there was a chance of purchasing Fletcher's Lots.
