Fan-Tan. The principal game is played with numerous bright Cash which are placed on a table covered by a cap - a square pewter plate is then placed some little distance off, the numbers 1, 2, 3, or 4, each side representing. And opposite which the stakes are placed; it is also permitted to stake on the corner. The Amount of the winning stake can be reduced; the Cup is removed; and the Cash are Counted by fours, and the stakes are won or lost according as 1, 2, 3, or none Cash remain Over. If there is no surplus, four times the Amount of the winning stake is paid, less a deduction of seven per cent. In this game, there is very little Cheating, as the Chinese can tell when a pile of 30 cash remains on the heap what the result will be. I have however seen a very cleverly made double cash, which can be split if it is desirable to add one to the remainder.
