This is a term used in connection with Coolies despatched from Macao. This statement is not correct. The Interpreter who accompanied me had been but a short time in the employ of the Government; he had been strongly recommended to me by the Head Master of the Central School and could have no interest in asking any question, but those I desired him to put.

In the matter of the Collection of the emigrants, I am of opinion M. Lobscheid had nothing to do with those that were fraudulently obtained and who were never embarked, but I do think M. Lobscheid's time is so fully occupied in other matters that he is unable to keep that supervision over the doings of his Chinese Collectors he should necessarily do.
