understand it to be the Consul's intention to inform the Government at Washington.

On the 5th instant, the Consul reported officially that an American vessel, the "Farsic" had arrived here from San Francisco and the Hawaiian Islands, and that when on the high seas between Honolulu and Hong Kong, six of her crew were guilty of felonious and piratical acts on board said vessel.

I use the Consul's own words, as they are important, but I believe the fact to be that these men had formed a plot to seize the vessel, which was happily discovered and frustrated.

In the meantime, the Acting Superintendent of Police had, at the Consul's request, as an act of courtesy, taken charge of the alleged offenders and detained them in the Police Office.

The Consul's application was to the effect that the alleged prisoners should be detained by the Police Authorities of this Colony until he could complete the examination and testimony touching the charges,
