SIR,
I am desired by His Excellency SIR RICHARD GRAVES MACDONNELL to inform you that the meeting of Council for transaction of the Legislative Business of the current year has been postponed till next month, in consequence of the unavoidable absence of the Honorable the Attorney General.
Printed Draughts of the Ordinances intended to be laid before the Council will be transmitted to you as early as practicable, with a view to your favoring the Executive with any suggestions, which you may deem it expedient to offer.
I am further directed by His Excellency to enclose for your information Copy of a Despatch from the Right Honorable the Secretary of State for the Colonies on the subject of Ordinance No. 12 of 1866, imposing Stamp Duties. Although the postponement of the meeting of Council prevents His Excellency laying that document on the Council Table, he is nevertheless desirous that the Members of Council should be early acquainted with its contents.
