- observe from the corresponidence transmitted by Your Excellency in that despatch that the Board of Trade require further evidence as to the conduct of the Master of the "Quonaventure" - as the Statement transmitted by me was a Statement made by himself.

That is quite true in a literal sense - but I may observe that although the examination of the Master as the responsible party was that prominently put forward - nevertheless the only other European on board of the "Quonaventure" - namely the Mate was quite prepared to corroborate the facts as detailed by the Master, and did testify - though not officially to the correctness of the Master's story.
4. I would have gladly supply any further evidence in my power, but I learn that the "Quonaventure" has since been sold at Singapore, her Port of Registry, to an Indian, and is stated to have left that place with pilgrims for Jeddah.
