The report has I believe been required from Canton, so that I must wish in great delay to obtain the issue of the necessary instruction to the Authorities at all their Ports to receive the at the same rate as Mexican dollars are received.

They apparently do not think the country is prepared to give general circulation to a silver currency, and deem any steps which it might be expedient to take might be construed into an attempt to force upon the nation a new medium of Exchange. They have not been successful in attempts to introduce 10 cash and 100 cash pieces of copper and probably conclude from thence that they would meet with equal difficulty if they issued a silver...
