accumulated dust of pulverized stone with decayed animal and vegetable matter is blown about to the great injury of goods exposed for sale in shops, whilst at the same time houses and offices are rendered filthy in the extreme, and more important still health is impaired by the unclean particles which are inhaled. The soft covering by which the metal of a road should always be protected is at the same time removed, the stones are loosened and the surface broken up. Frequent reparations are necessary. Your Memorialists would remark that the chief lines of traffic, viz. the Queen's Road and the Praya, are parallel to and a few yards from the sea wall; that salt water has been found remarkably well adapted for the purpose of road watering; that it lays the dust and at the same time binds and renders the surface firm; that the evaporation arising from an extended area at a time when the extreme defecation of the air is often attended with inconvenience will be beneficial; and that a large amount of comfort may thus be obtained at a very moderate expense.

Vehicles alike suffer from the jarring tread and motion, and the pleasure of carriage, and especially equestrian exercise, is materially lessened.
