His request by increasing the salary of the Police Sighting and Water Rate clerk (now styled 3rd clerk) from $960 (£200) to $1200 (£250) per annum; with a view to enabling him to engage the services of competent English clerks, as also to allow him an extra clerk, also English, under the designation of 4th clerk, on a salary at the rate of $660 (£137.10) per annum. These additions will, I trust, deprive him of all future excuse for permitting arrears of the Police and Sighting Rates to accumulate again in his Office.

Estimates for 1866, now in course of preparation.

I have the honor to be,

Of Your Lordship's,

Most Obedient Servant,

Robert W. Ruckes, MacDonnell Governor.

I have therefore to request Your Lordship's sanction and approval of this additional expenditure, for which a vote will be taken in the supplementary
