Crown Agents, I have the honor to state, that I would prefer waiting till next mail to give full particulars of the financial State of the Colony :
I may here observe meantime that the supposed errors in reference to the non-payment of the £10,000 loan has in part arisen from the application of £5,000 to payment of the September Quarter of the Military contribution which had been previously paid.
I did not contemplate making any payment to that fund after September, simply because no funds exist enabling me to do so,
and I supposed that there were at least £5,000 more available to reimbursing the treasury. That is the case still if the £6,000 in question has not been impounded to pay the Military Contribution for the December Quarter, which I trust Your Lordship will not insist on.
I have the honor to be,
Your Lordship's Most obedient servant,
MacDonnell,
Governor.
