REPORT AND ESTIMATE No. // OF 1867.

Repairs to Roads

January 1887.

OFFICE OF SURVEYOR GENERAL

ESTIMATE OF THE EXPENSE NECESSARY TO BE INCURRED

PLAN OR DESCRIPTION. PARTICULARS. LABOUR. MATERIALS TO BE PURCHASED. MATERIALS TO BE ISSUED FROM STORES. PORTION OF WORK TO BE PERFORMED BY CONTRACT. TOTAL. ... ... ... ... ... ... ...

During the past year the roads have been kept in very fair repair without any great expense being incurred, the absence of any very heavy rain has prevented their being washed away as is not unfrequently the case in most years.

It has been considerably improved by macadamising here and there, and a contract has been entered into for breaking all stone that may be required both on this road and on the Quarry Bay Road during the year.

The opening of the new Chinese Cemetery will make it necessary to put Caroline Hill Road into proper repair, hitherto it has not been made use of and consequently not kept in repair.

A new road is being formed by the Hong Kong and Whampoa Dock Co. adjoining their new dry dock at Aberdeen, as soon as this is finished horses will be able to journey to the East-end of the village and it may therefore be advisable to put the road hence to Hong Kong into good repair.

Ordinary repairs to roads are made only during the rains, and I propose this year to employ an Indian Overseer during the rainy months, on both the Quarry Bay and Aberdeen Roads.

Approved,

[signed] K. E. MacDonnell.

Governor.

C. Casualties.... $ 330 ... ... ... ... TOTAL.. $3,000.

Surveyor General.
