OFFICE OF SURVEYOR GENERAL
(Art. Ingions, 17.38.)
REPORT AND ESTIMATE No. // OF 186)
ESTIMATE OF THE EXPENSE NECESSARY TO BE INCURRED FOR WORKS IN KOWLOON
DATED January 1867.
PLAN OR DESCRIPTION PARTICULARS
LABOUR MATERIALS TO BE PURCHASED MATERIALS TO BE ISSUED FROM STORES PORTION OF WORK TO BE PERFORMED BY CONTRACT TOTAL $In Report and Estimate No. 23 of 1866, I explained that it was impracticable to complete the different roads in Kowloon where they have to be formed by reclaiming unless the dots on either side were filled in at the same time.
The accompanying tracing shows how far the completion of Elgin Road have been completed, out of a sum of $6,000 voted labour for earthwork @ 10¢ per cubic yard only $2,000 have been expended leaving still to be executed to the amount of $4,000.
Completion of Mercer Robinson Road has not been gone on with during the past year in consequence of the adjoining tenants failing to raise their Lots to the Road Level.
Some cutting will have to be executed by the Government; the greater portion of the waste has been formed by the Tenants, who required the earth for reclaiming, for forming Praya in front of their Lots.
I have now however struck upon hard Rock, which may be removed by Blasting.
It will be seen from the Plan that the work of reclaiming is gradually progressing; during the foreseen year it is hoped that this work which is a considerably extensive one will be completed.
The vote of Council for this service is $4,000.
