OF 1867.
OFFICE OF SURVEYOR GENERAL
(Art. of Instructions, No. 38.)
ESTIMATE OF THE EXPENSE NECESSARY TO BE INCURRED Following and Improving Quarry Bay Road.
REPORT AND ESTIMATE No.
DATED 1st January 1867.
PLAN OR DESCRIPTION.
PARTICULARS.
LABOUR.
When a sum for this service was first voted by the Council, it was intended to employ it in forming Quarry Bay Road at North Point to a uniform width throughout, in lengthening some of the Culverts, and in forming a parapet on the Sea Wall, since that time a considerable portion of the Sea Wall has been washed down by the Sea and the whole of the sum voted will be required for the necessary repairs.
178 C. Yards @ $1.30 = $231.40
213 C. Yards @ $1.30 = $276.90
The old Wall is built dry with rubble Stone and without proper concrete backing, the consequence is that during heavy Gales and very high tides the water washes through the wall and undermines the adjoining Road causing dangerous holes.
The wall which is being built in place of that washed down is of rough Stone set in Mortar, the whole being strengthened by two courses of headers of Split Stone extending through the full thickness of the Wall, and placed at intervals of Six feet. In addition to this the Wall is backed up with 18 inches of good concrete making a strong and substantial piece of Work.
The sum voted by Council for this service is $2,500.
Approved,
Richard Graves MacDonnell
Governor.
Surveyor General.
