Public Gardens, Fountains, and Improvements.
PLAN OR DESCRIPTION.
This Report and Estimate is in support of the usual annual repairs required to the Public Gardens, and also of the erection of a handsome Fountain on the upper Terrace. The Fountain will stand in a large Basin. On plan it is to purchase a Fountain (ordered from England) Quatre Foil with square projections, the Troughs ornate with scroll ornaments in panel design. From 20 garden seats (ordered from England) @ $10, water plants. The Middle Basin is a quatrefoil on four Columns standing round a Central Pillar. The upper Basin is a pointed quatrefoil with heights of Ferns. 100 Tons of Gravel for repairs to Paths @ $2.57. For Column is not mentioned, 800 ft brick water channel for S.E. end of Basin, in the comprehensive Models of the Garden made by the Captain of the Royal Engineers. The cap is of Water Plants, the underside of Upper Basin is shells and later leaves. This for 300 feet - Plain Curb. Plain has already been ordered from England.
During the past year a band stand has been purchased and sent to the Colony by the Taroce Community. It has been a great convenience to the Band, and is an ornament to the gardens. The same number of Gardeners will be employed as last year. The vote of Council for the service is $5,000.
