Supreme Court had been previously added to the Staff of the Colonial Secretary's office as the work and arrears were increasing and on the increase in such a manner as would hereafter require me to communicate separately on that subject.
2. Mr Barnicot has since been able to keep abreast of the business.
3. I see no prospect however of dispensing with M. Braga's services. When the preparation of the Blue Book commences it will be absolutely necessary to engage additional assistance provisionally. This will probably entail an extra cost of $300. As the salary of Mr Braga was $1200 per annum appointed permanently as a clerk in the room of Marques resigned. The arrears were still formidable I have also since employed Mr V. Braga who is not yet borne on the Mint Staff but whose services during the present "inertia" of the mint have become available elsewhere. With this assistance the work of the Colonial Secretary's Office is once more being kept nearly up to date.
